In the tenth FD Podcast of the series, editor Oliver McBride speaks The Fishing Daily editor, to Patrick Murphy, organiser of the Dublin Port rally on Wednesday 23 June 2021.
Irish fishing communities need the public to know what is happening to them, that’s according to Patrick Murphy CEO of the Irish South and West Fish Producers Organisation. Wednesday, 23 June 2021 will see another gathering of the Irish fishing fleet which will be held this time at Dublin Port. Brexit, losing quota in UK waters, penalty points pressure coming from the EU Commission, the loss of the control plan, the incompetence of the SFPA and the impending doom of the further decommissioning of the Irish fishing fleet is driving stress levels in Irish fishing communities through the roof as they face an uncertainty.
The future of her coastal communities hangs in the balance and fishermen and their representatives this week have been asking the Minister for the Marine to back them in their fight for survival.
I speak to Patrick about the issues facing the fishing industry and a ‘show and tell’ which is to be held at Dublin Port on Wednesday 23 June 2021.
