Orkney Fisheries Association appoints a new Chief Executive

Orkney Fisheries Association today announced the appointment of Alistair Buchan as its new Chief Executive, succeeding Hannah Fennell, who has led the organisation with distinction during her tenure.

Mr. Buchan brings a wealth of leadership experience to the role, who previously served as Chief Executive of Orkney Islands Council, where he oversaw complex public services, managed multi-million-pound budgets, and drove forward strategic initiatives that strengthened the region’s economic, social, and environmental resilience.

Throughout his career, Alistair has developed a reputation for collaborative leadership, financial stewardship, and strategic vision, with a proven ability to deliver results across diverse teams and communities.

His time with Orkney Islands Council demonstrated his capacity to balance local needs with broader policy objectives, while building strong relationships with government, businesses, and community partners.

Outgoing Chief Executive Hannah Fennell expressed her support for the transition: “It has been a privilege to serve as Chief Executive.
