Norwegian Fleet Continues Blue Whiting Activity in Faroese Zone

Blue whiting and horse mackerel have again featured in Norwegian pelagic activity this week, with continued fishing reported in the Faroese zone.

A total of 7,110 tonnes of blue whiting were reported by six Norwegian vessels. Among them, the vessel Rogne completed its entire annual quota in just two trips, marking a strong start following its introduction to the fleet.

At present, two Norwegian vessels remain active on the fishing grounds in the Faroese zone, with expectations that a small number of additional vessels may join during the week. Further landings of blue whiting are therefore anticipated in the coming days.

Limited Horse Mackerel Landings Reported

Horse mackerel activity has been more limited. The vessel Vestervik reported a catch of 3 tonnes last Monday.

The fish, averaging around 500 grams, were caught north of Bergen and subsequently landed at Global Florø.

Steady Pelagic Activity Continues

While blue whiting continues to dominate pelagic landings, the presence of horse mackerel indicates a broader mix of species being targeted, albeit at significantly lower volumes.

With vessels still operating in the Faroese zone and additional activity expected, the Norwegian pelagic fleet is likely to maintain steady reporting levels in the short term.
