The Rural Affairs Minister is seeking assistance for the Welsh Seafood Industry

Welsh Rural Affairs Minister, Lesley Griffiths, to Wales’ has released a video today to thank and reassure fishers and all involved in seafood industry.

In her message she said she understood it was “a hugely difficult time for Wales’ seafood industry and is looking at options to help the seafood industry through the crisis.

She said “Last week, I spoke with Jim Evans from the Welsh Fishermen’s Association about the issues facing the industry.

“Now more than ever, the Welsh Government is extremely grateful for the crucial role fishers are carrying out in helping to feed our nation.

“But of course your work doesn’t just support our food supply chain at home and abroad, Wales’ fantastic seafood industry also shapes the unique character of our coastal and often remote communities.

“I’m fully aware there have been a number of challenges for the industry in recent times, issues with Asian markets and of course a winter of storms meant the start of 2020 was tough enough for you, and that was even before we were hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“And that’s why we in the Welsh Government are actively looking at all the options to help with this challenging time.

“So one again a sincere thank you for putting food on our plates and supporting our communities.”

She ended by saying “Please and please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.”
