States of Jersey police have confirmed that two bodies have been found near where fishing vessel l’Ecume II, which sank off the west coast of Jersey on Thursday morning 08 December last.
Skipper Michael Michieli and crewmen Larry Simyunn and Jervis Baligat were onboard the L’Ecume II when it collided with a ro-ro freighter Commodore Goodwill at around 5.30 in the morning.
A search and recovery operation is ongoing, with specialist equipment being used to inspect the vessel which is currently lying in around 40-metres (131ft) of water.
A large offshore support vessel was commissioned by the Ports of Jersey to survey the site, which is expected to continue until Monday.
Police have not confirmed which of the three men have been found.
The MV Freja, a large offshore support vessel is at the site of the L’Ecume II where a remote-controlled underwater robot is being used to conduct the search, the Ports of Jersey confirmed.
In a statement today the States of Jersey Police said:
“The States of Jersey Police can confirm that two bodies have been located in the area of L’ECUME II.
“The search and recovery operation is ongoing and will continue while the weather permits.
“Family members continue to be supported by specially trained Police Family Liaison Officers.
“A further update will follow when available.”
