Kenneth Joensen will take up the position as the new director of the Danish Fisheries Agency on January 1, 2024. He replaces Nanna Møller, who has become the director of the Danish Transport Authority.

Kenneth Joensen comes from a position as the director of the Corporate Area with approximately 950 employees at the Tax Authority. Additionally, from 2015 to 2018, he served as the legal director at Finance Denmark.

Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Jacob Jensen (V), stated:

“I am very pleased that Kenneth Joensen has accepted the position as the new director of the Danish Fisheries Agency. Fishing is one of the oldest industries in Denmark, currently going through a period of upheaval with fewer quotas and declining fish stocks in our waters. At the same time, the Fisheries Commission is working on recommendations for the future of fishing. So, there is a lot to address, and I am confident that Kenneth is the right person to continue and strengthen the important work that the agency delivers every day.”

Kenneth Joensen states:

“I know the fishing industry as a proud and tradition-rich profession. Right now, the industry is facing a time when Brexit and fewer quotas have made it more challenging for many. But it is also a time of opportunities for Danish fishing, and I am very much looking forward to leading the Danish Fisheries Agency, working together with the agency’s many dedicated employees to tackle the important tasks ahead. Especially when we soon receive the Fisheries Commission’s recommendations for the future of fishing. The Danish Fisheries Agency has undergone significant and important development in recent years, and I will do my very best to continue the course, where dialogue with the industry’s many stakeholders will be paramount.”
