The Spanish Government has announced a €20 million investment from its Recovery Plan Aid for the seafood industry
The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food has launched a new funding initiative under the European Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR) aimed at supporting the fisheries and aquaculture processing industry.
With an initial budget of €20 million, the aid can be extended depending on demand.
This funding programme, announced today in the Official State Gazette (BOE), is a collaborative effort between the ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. It responds to the industry’s call for inclusion in the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for the agri-food sector. The Spanish processing industry is a leader within the European Union (EU) and is a key driver of the economy in many coastal areas of Spain.
With this call, published today in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Industry and Tourism respond to the demand of the industry for the processing of fishing and aquaculture products, which requested its inclusion in the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of Agri-Food. The Spanish processing industry is a leader at EU level and the backbone of the economy in large areas of the Spanish coast.
The purpose of the call for proposals is to finance investments that begin after the application for aid has been made. These investments must be greater than 1.5 million euros and must be executed by 30 June 2026 at the latest. The aid may cover up to 50% of the cost of the investment, with a maximum amount of five million euros, and provides for the possibility of making an advance payment, upon request of the interested party, of up to 100% of its amount.
These grants will support investments related to energy efficiency, the circular economy, new products, improvements in packaging, traceability systems, efficient use of water and actions that result in improved safety, hygiene, health and working conditions.
