Gale warnings issued overnight for coastal waters

Met Éireann and the Met Office UK have issued overnight gale warnings with severe wind warnings in place for the morning.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange – Gale Warning:
1. West to Southwest winds will continue to occasionally reach gale force 8 overnight on Irish Coastal Waters from Carnsore Point to Roches Point to Valentia and on the Irish Sea

2. On Irish Coastal Waters from Valentia to Erris Head to Malin Head, west to southwest winds will increase to gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 overnight extending to all Irish Coastal Waters and the Irish Sea on Thursday morning while gradually veering west to northwest. Winds will occasionally reach storm force 10 Thursday morning between Slyne Head and Malin Head.


They have also issued a Status Yellow – Small Craft Warning:
West to southwest winds will reach force 6 or 7 and gusty overnight on Irish Coasts from Malin Head to Carlingford Lough to Carnsore Point.

The Met Office has also issued a warning for southwesterly severe gale force 9 veering and decreasing northerly gale force 8 later with very rough seas, squally showers and visibility good to occasionally poor.
