PelAC has voiced concerns to the Commission regarding the implementation of new conditions pertaining to the landing and weighing of catches
In a letter addressed to Ms. Charlina Vitcheva, the Pelagic Advisory Council (PelAC) has voiced concerns regarding the process of adopting a delegated act under EU Regulation 2023/2842.
Specifically, PelAC members are apprehensive about the criteria used to define conditions pertaining to the landing and weighing of fish catches, as well as the subsequent listing of compliant ports.
The implementing act, expected to be published by 10 July 2024, holds significant implications for fleets under the jurisdiction of PelAC, particularly concerning the possibility of applying margins of tolerance for unsorted landings, as outlined in paragraph 4 of Article 14 of the regulation.
PelAC members express their concern over the lack of clear information regarding the criteria definition process and consultation with member states. They emphasize the importance of adequate consultation with relevant Advisory Councils, including PelAC, to ensure that the interests of all stakeholders are properly considered.
In conclusion, PelAC extends gratitude for early consideration of their concerns.
The Pelagic Advisory Council’s letter highlights the importance of transparent and inclusive decision-making processes in the implementation of EU regulations, particularly in matters with significant impacts on fisheries activities and stakeholders.
