Deputy Christopher O’Sullivan TD, has said that the brown crab and shrimp sector in Ireland need an emergency fund to keep the sector viable

Cork South West TD, Christopher O’Sullivan has said that the brown crab and shrimp sector in Ireland need an emergency fund to keep the sector viable.

Deputy O’Sullivan said, “There are many small inshore boats who rely heavily on the brown crab and shrimp market.  Unfortunately, that market has collapsed in recent weeks and inshore fishers are really struggling to get by this Winter”.

Deputy O’Sullivan met with a delegation who visited the Department of Agriculture & Fisheries buildings in Dublin in the last couple of weeks, there he heard the concerns they had and their plea for immediate action.

Cork South West Deputy said, “I met many of those impacted in Dublin recently just before they met with the Minister for Agriculture.  It is clear that this is a crisis situation now, so I would be urging the Minister to make provision, like he has for other sectors in recent times, so that these hard working fisherman can get through this winter”
