Only Fish Producers Organisation are entitled to EU aid for fish storage say EU regulations

EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius,  confirmed that only Fish Producers Organisations can avail of EU aid for fish storage.

Speaking to the PECH Committee he explained that under Regulation (EU) No 1379/20133, Member States could not distribute EMFF monies to individual producers for the storage of fishery products.

The Commissioner told the PECH Committee “Storage aid is a market intervention tool regulated under the CMO (The Common Organisation of the Markets).

“According to that regulation this tool is managed exclusively by Producer Organisations which are granted specific entitlements as market managers.

“Each fisherman and woman can join a Producer Organisation and thoroughly benefit from collective actions implemented by the producer.

“Nevertheless, private storage is possible for any individual producer as long as it is financed with private money.

“Member States may support any fishermen or aquaculture farmer with state aid”

Expenditure for operations supported under these measures should be eligible as of 1 February 2020.
