Minister Timmy Dooley visits Dunmore East and Kilmore Quay, meeting fishermen and reviewing harbour development and funding plans.
Ireland’s Minister of State at the Department for Agriculture, Food and the Marine with special responsibility for Fisheries, Timmy Dooley TD, visited Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre on Tuesday (07 April 2026).
The Minister was accompanied on this visit by the Government Chief Whip, Minister Mary Butler TD.
Minister Dooley toured the harbour alongside Councillor Adam Wyse, Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Waterford.
They were welcomed by Harbour Master Deirdre Lane along with officials from the Minister’s Department, who provided an update on the ongoing development works. Earlier this year, the Minister allocated €1.9 million in funding for capital works at Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre under the 2026 Capital Development Programme. The Minister viewed the recently completed Island Road Steps project and the proposed plans for the cliff protection works.
Speaking at the visit in Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre, Minister Dooley commented: “I am delighted to be here today in this beautiful harbour and to witness the progress being made to the harbour’s infrastructure.

The Government’s ongoing commitment to investing in Dunmore East is essential to underpin the harbour’s future as one of Ireland’s primary fishery harbour centres by supporting its future development, modernisation and sustainability.
The Minister discussed fishing matters with local trawler operators and inshore fishers on the pier and also held a meeting with the Irish South & East Fish Producers Organisation (ISEFPO) and local fishing and aquaculture representatives.
Minister Dooley also travelled to Kilmore Quay in Wexford where he met local fishermen and discussed the current challenges facing the industry.
