Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a fisherman who was recovered from the water off the coast of Arranmore, County Donegal, on Tuesday, 11 November.
In a statement to The Fishing Daily, a Garda spokesperson said that a report was received at approximately 1:25 p.m. of a man overboard from a fishing vessel operating within Irish territorial waters off Arranmore.
The man, aged in his forties, was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital by the Irish Coast Guard, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The vessel based out of Greencastle, Co Donegal, returned to harbour in the early hours of Wednesday morning, where a technical examination was carried out.
Gardaí said that the Coroner has been informed and that a post-mortem examination will be conducted by the State Pathologist. The results of the post-mortem will determine the next steps of the Garda investigation.
