Irish fishing boats have been notified to cease fishing for Norway Lobster in in Functional Unit 16 of ICES Subarea 7
Irish-registered fishing boats will have to cease fishing for nephrops in in Functional Unit 16 of ICES Subarea 7, with effect from 20:20 hours tonight, Wednesday 14 December 2022 until 01 January 2023.
Notice No. 65 of 2022 (December Norway Lobster Functional Unit 16 Quota Management Notice) issues by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and signed off by Minister Charlie McConalogue, will mean Irish-registered fishing vessels with nephops (Norway Lobster) on board will have until midnight tonight to return ashore and land their catches, or risk being in contravention of the law.
Notice: 1. This Notice may be cited as Fisheries Management Notice No. 65 of 2022.
- This Notice comes into force on 20 :20 hours on 14 December 2022 and ceases to have effect on 01 January 2023.
- (a) The master of an Irish sea-fishing boat, shall not engage in, or cause or permit any person on board to engage in, fishing activity for Norway Lobster in Functional Unit 16 of ICES Subarea 7 with effect from 20:20 hours on 14 December 2022.
(b) By way of derogation from paragraph 3 (a), an Irish sea-fishing boat may retain onboard and land before 23:59 hours on 14 December 2022, Norway Lobster from Functional Unit 16 of ICES Subarea 7.
