The qualifying time period for the Inshore Fisheries Business Model Adjustment Scheme has been extended

The qualifying time period for the Brexit Inshore Fisheries Business Model Adjustment Scheme has been extended to include the months from July to December, Cork South West Deputy Christopher O’Sullivan says.

“This will allow hundreds more inshore fishers from across Ireland avail of the payment of up to €4000. This is a great outcome for fishers,” Deputy O’Sullivan said.

The support scheme, first announced in January, assists inshore fishers in adjusting their business model to the post Brexit market environment.

“Since the announcement of the scheme I have been contacted by those who fish for shrimp and whelk who would not have met the qualifying criteria under the original time period as the shrimp season only opens in August,” Deputy O’Sullivan said.

“I’m delighted Minister Charlie McConalogue has listened to the inshore sector. The inshore fleet sustains so many coastal communities on this island. This scheme will help them soften the blow of Brexit and COVID 19.”
