Icelandic fish processor, Síldarvinnslan has reported that blue whiting fishing in the Rockall area has eased off over the past few days, as their boats watch on as Norwegian vessels continue fishing in the Irish EEZ.

The fishing vessel Beitir NK docked in Neskaupstaður on Saturday night, hauling 1,100 tons of blue whiting, a significant decrease from previous hauls. Skipper Tómas Kárason commented on the challenging conditions, noting that while the first two hauls were satisfactory, subsequent ones were disappointing.

Upon arrival at Rockall, the vessel encountered Russian and Faroese ships, indicating ongoing fishing activities in the region. However, Icelandic vessels were notably absent from the scene, with the Hoffell SU vessel concluding its fishing.
