Both the Met Éireann and BBC Weather forecasters have issued severe weather warnings for across Ireland and the UK as Storm Darragh hits

Storm Darragh is forecasted to impact Ireland and the UK, bringing severe weather conditions that pose significant risks to fishermen and coastal communities.

The severest effects from Storm Darragh is expected to impact both countries between late tonight, Friday 06 December, and tomorrow, Saturday 07 December, but the long er outlook will see severe weather warnings remain in place over the weekend.

 

Weather Warnings:

  • Ireland: Met Éireann has issued multiple warnings for County Donegal:
    • Red Wind Warning: In effect from 11:00 PM on Friday, December 6, until 3:00 AM on Saturday, December 7. Expect extremely strong and gusty northwest winds with potential impacts including fallen trees, damage to power lines, dangerous travel conditions, structural damage to temporary structures, and wave overtopping.
    • Orange Wind Warning: Valid from 10:00 PM on Friday until 10:00 AM on Saturday. Very strong and gusty northwest winds are anticipated, with similar potential impacts.
    • Yellow Rainfall Warning: Effective until 10:00 AM on Saturday. Heavy rain may lead to localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travel conditions.
  • UK: The Met Office has issued a red “danger to life” wind warning for the coast of Wales, effective from 3:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 7. Gusts up to 90 mph are expected, with potential impacts including flying debris, falling trees, large waves, power cuts, and damage to buildings and infrastructure.
