The Fishing Daily to Provide Live Coverage of the Catch Welfare Platform Conference in Bergen, Norway
The Fishing Daily is pleased to announce it will be bringing exclusive coverage from the Catch Welfare Platform conference taking place from 20 to 23 November 2023, in Bergen, Norway.
This exclusive coverage will include podcasts and live interviews with keynote speakers and attendees at the event.
The Catch Welfare Platform (CWP) conference marks an important initiative in addressing the well-being of caught fish, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts among seafood-related industries, research organisations, and retail to address this concern on a global scale. Its primary goal is to create and manage a network of multidisciplinary teams aimed at expediting the transition in global fisheries towards practices and technologies that enhance the welfare of the catch, including post-capture slaughter.
CWP aims to tackle critical challenges in global fisheries transition, which include characterising capture-related hazards, defining scientific principles and tools for implementing good catch welfare, understanding technical and socio-economic barriers, and facilitating stakeholder engagement and public awareness through effective communication and education. The transition will prioritise fishing practices that minimise physical damage and allostatic load on the animals, emphasising the importance of the fishing community’s involvement in driving this transformation.
Speaking about the significance of this conference, Oliver McBride, Managing Editor at The Fishing Daily, said: “I am delighted The Fishing Daily will be at the Catch Welfare Platform conference in Bergen. The subject of fish welfare is interesting, and as a fishing community, it is important we learn to work together to improve the welfare of fish, which can help fishermen enhance the quality of their product and potentially earn better returns for their hard work. The Catch Welfare Platform conference represents a significant step in the development of fish welfare, and for three days in November, we will be the go-to source for comprehensive information about the conference and the Catch Welfare Platform.”
The Fishing Daily is excited to play a key role in bringing this important event to the broader fishing community and the public. The live coverage will provide real-time insights and updates on the innovative initiatives and discussions surrounding the welfare of caught fish.
