“NIFA and NIFO welcome the Minister’s decision to extend the eligibility reference period to include all of 2021 on the basis that we trust it will address the primary concerns outlined in our joint press release issued on 13/01/22.”

In that joint press release, NIFA/NIFO expressed concerns regarding the Brexit Inshore Fisheries Business Model Adjustment Scheme which they believe is not in line with the recommendations of the Seafood Sector Task Force report published in October 2021.

In today’s statement NIFA/NIFO asked Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue to consider these concerns. They write:

“We commend the Minister the Minister for considering these concerns and addressing them in a timely manner. We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our members and their colleagues on the Inshore Fisheries Forums, particularly the NIFF, for bringing these concerns to the attention of the Minister. We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of various public elected representatives, in particular Cork South West TD, Deputy Christopher O’Sullivan.”
