Coast Guard helicopter R115 has airlifted a fisherman requiring hospitalisation off an Irish fishing vessel approx 170 miles SW off Mizen Head

In a mission coordinated by Valentia Coast Guard, the Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter R115 has airlifted a crewman requiring hospitalisation off an Irish fishing vessel operating approximately 170 miles SW off Mizen Head.

Top cover communication support was provided by an Air Corps Casa Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The airlift took place shortly after 4 pm and the helicopter is routing to Kerry University hospital where it was scheduled to arrive at 5.30 pm.

It is understood that the incident took place upon the 26-metre, Tralee based, Guiding Star II T-120 which had travelled to the Bay of Biscay to fish Albacore Tuna with several other Irish vessels.
