
Cornwall IFCA secured a successful conviction over the retaining of berries lobsters
On 23 August 2023, at Truro Magistrates Court, Cornwall IFCA successfully prosecuted the owner and master of the fishing vessel Gloria Dawn PW26 for fishing offences related to the retaining of berried lobsters.
The owner Anthony Rescorla (60), and the master Ashley Rescorla, (37), both of Padstow, Cornwall, both pleaded guilty to fishing for and retaining berried (egg bearing) lobsters, retaining an undersized spider crab as well as an offence regarding failures to submit monthly catch returns.
Magistrates sentenced Anthony Rescorla to pay fines amounting to £1,173, together with a £469 surcharge and costs of £2,020.06. Ashley Rescorla was ordered to pay fines amounting to £440, with a £176 surcharge and £2,020.06 in costs.
