The body of a man in his 70’s has been recovered from the sea near Sliabh Liag, Co Donegal following a search operation, Gardaí have confirmed.
Gardaí have reported the man’s body was recovered from the water shortly before midnight and brought ashore by the Coast Guard unit.
The alarm was raised shortly after 9pm when a boat was discovered washed up on the rocks near Sliabh Liag on Donegal’s southern coastline, not far from Killybegs.
A full-scale search and rescue operation was launched by Malin Coast Guard that involved the Sligo-based helicopter R118, Killybegs Coastguard, and RNLI units from Bundoran and Árainn Mhór.
The man’s body was found near the boat and brought ashore by Killybegs Coast Guard. He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Letterkenny Hospital where a post-mortem examination has been arranged. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.
