The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, has signed three new grant orders for diesel fuel consumption to fishing vessel owners, totaling €40.85 million for 600 beneficiaries. This is one of the support measures for the sector to address the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
This amount is added to the payments already made, which affect another 2,400 beneficiaries, totaling €7.5 million.
Thus, the amount processed by the Government in 2023 amounts to €48.37 million, distributed among over 3,000 beneficiaries.
Royal Decree-Law 20/2022 of December 27 established state aid for diesel fuel consumption by fishing vessel and almadraba operators for the year 2023, aimed at reducing the effects on prices and markets resulting from the situation created by the invasion of Ukraine. This was subsequently extended in June, following the publication of Royal Decree-Law 5/2023.
Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, through the General Secretariat of Fisheries, is working on resolving the remaining 3,345 applications, amounting to €48.75 million.
In total, considering the number of applications submitted, it is expected that by the end of the year, the Government will have disbursed approximately €115 million to support the fishing sector due to the increase in diesel prices.
