Ms. Ilaria Bellomo has been appointed the new NWWAC Fisheries Strategy and Administration Officer
The North Western Waters Advisory Council is pleased to welcome Ms. Ilaria Bellomo as its Fisheries Strategy and Administration Officer.
Ilaria holds a bachelor’s degree in international Cooperation from Cattolica University in Milan, Italy, followed by a Master’s degree in International Security Studies from the University of Bologna. Her passion for the fisheries sector began after an Erasmus experience in Tromsø, Norway, which led her to pursue a career in fisheries policy.
Ilaria’s early career included a traineeship at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, within the Fisheries Directorate, where she gained expertise in EU and international fisheries management and policy. Most recently, as a Fisheries Policy Analyst and Project Manager at Federpesca (the Italian National Federation of Fishing Enterprises), she provided technical support to Italian fishers, and policy guidance and recommendations to the Italian administration, MEDAC, the PECH Committee of the EU Parliament, and the FAO-GFCM.
Ilaria is also committed to advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment in aquaculture, being Vice President and Co-founder of a nonprofit association called NOWA, the Network of Women in Aquaculture.
