The Port of Skagen has topped the Danish fish landings for 2023 with 412,340 tonnes of fish and shellfish landed

The Port of Skagen has emerged as the leading port in Denmark for fish landings in 2023, according to the latest figures released on May 30, 2024.

The northernmost port in Denmark saw an impressive 412,340 tonnes of fish and shellfish landed for both consumption and industrial use.

This substantial volume solidifies Skagen’s position as the top port, far outstripping its closest competitor. The Port of Thyborøn came in a distant second with 149,656 tonnes of landings. Following Thyborøn, Hanstholm Harbor secured third place with 55,446 tonnes of fish and shellfish. The Port of Hvide Sande and Grenå Havn took fourth and fifth places with 40,514 and 31,230 tonnes respectively.

In total, these five ports accounted for fish and shellfish landings worth DKK 3.4 billion (€455.8m/£388.7m) in 2023. The rankings reflect a slight change from 2022, where Grenå Havn and Hvide Sande Havn swapped places, with Grenå Havn previously in fourth and Hvide Sande Havn in fifth.

The significant lead by the Port of Skagen underscores its critical role in Denmark’s fishing industry, both in terms of volume and economic contribution. The port’s strategic location and infrastructure continue to support its dominance in fish landings.
