Samherji, one of the largest companies in the Icelandic fishing industry has announced a change of ownership that will see the next generation take the helm.
The total catch for the fishing industry in Iceland for April 2020 was 88,800, which is 21% less than in April 2019 according to statistics released by the Directorate of Fisheries.
Brim hf, from Iceland has taken delivery of a new deep sea freezer-trawler called ‘Ilivileq’ GR 2-201 from Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon in Gijón.
Brim hf has reported this week that their fishing fleet is not hitting the blue whiting shoals like they were expecting based on previous years experiences.
Blue whiting remains the largest pelagic catch for the Icelandic fishing industry with vessels landing from fishing grounds south of the Faroe Islands.
Brim hf. has reported that their freezer trawler ‘Vigri’ is fishing well in deep water and the crew are experienced good weather on the last trip.
