The Fishing Daily welcomes SafetyNet Technologies onboard as key partners with their innovative product, the CatchCam Camera

The Fishing Daily, the leader in online news for the Irish and UK fishing industry, is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with SafetyNet Technologies and their innovative product, CatchCam.

This collaboration of mutual goals aims to promote sustainable fishing practices and reduce the impact of bycatch in the commercial fishing sector.

“One of the key policies of The Fishing Daily is to work with companies who seek to advance practices in the fishing industry through innovation and technology, and SafetyNet Technologies very much fits that profile,” says Managing Editor and Co-founder of The Fishing Daily, Oliver McBride.

“We have been following SafetyNet Technologies now for a few years and tracking their progress. In fact, Tom Rossiter (Head of Precision Fishing and the person behind many of their ongoing commercial trials), was one of our first interviewees on The Fishing Daily Podcast back in 2021. I saw what they were doing with Pisces Lights and I had to find out more.

“Last November, I interviewed Tom again as part of the Catch Welfare Platform series of podcasts and we met in the flesh for the first time in Bergen.

“Part of that conversation was how this year, the company would shift its focus from the Pisces Lights, towards the launch of the latest CatchCam camera.

“We had an in-depth conversation over a cup of coffee one afternoon and it was one of those situations where we realised that the goals of both SafetyNet Technologies and The Fishing Daily are basically the same. So, yeah, it made perfect sense to partner.”

Oliver says that the continued development of technologies in the fishing industry is highly important.

“We need the SafetyNet Technologies and the Resqunit’s in this industry. We need them to be successful, and we need the industry to buy into new ideas. We need healthy oceans to have the next generation of fishing. If we can improve how we fish today, then we should be doing it today and not putting it off until tomorrow. That is the mission we have to commit to.”

“You can’t really fix what you can’t see. CatchCam is proving to be a fantastic tool for learning more about the gear’s underwater operations and, as a consequence, helping fishermen look after the catch better”, shares Tom Rossiter about the underwater camera.

He also added: “I recently had the chance to chat with Oliver in the Catch Welfare podcast, and it was great to see how our values aligned. We are excited to be partnering with Fishing Daily to promote CatchCam and the work our business is doing to make Precision Fishing happen.”

About SafetyNet Technologies:

SafetyNet Technologies is at the forefront of developing innovative solutions to address environmental challenges associated with commercial fishing. Their goal is to build tools that can help commercial fishermen catch their target species more efficiently and sustainably. \By continuously running commercial and scientific trials on fishing vessels, the company has the chance to collect direct feedback from fishermen and, as a consequence, use it to guide the design of their Precision Fishing products, including the CatchCam camera.

Precision Fishing uses specialist technology and data to make commercial fishing more predictable, profitable and sustainable. The ultimate goal is to take the uncertainty out of fishing.

SafetyNet Technologies collaborates with fisheries, environmental organisations, and industry stakeholders to implement and enhance its technologies. This collaborative approach ensures the practicality and effectiveness of their solutions.

About CatchCam:

Among these proposed solutions is CatchCam, by SafetyNet Technologies.  This robust underwater video camera was designed to provide fishermen with a firsthand view of their fishing gear in action. Built to withstand the rigours of commercial fishing, CatchCam removes the guesswork from fishing operations, offering a valuable tool for monitoring and improving gear selectivity.
