The latest addition to the south-east Irish fleet has just been launched at the LUYT Groep shipyard in Den Oever, Netherlands.

The new beam trawler ‘Tilly’ WD 3 is the first new vessel for O.F Fishing Ltd of Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford.

O.F Fishing Ltd is a family company owned by the O’Flaherty’s and their new vessel is named after their mother Tilly O’Flaherty.

The ‘Tilly’ will be skippered by John Bennett, who previously skippered the companies ‘Emer-Jane’ DA 37. He and the crew of the ‘Emer Jane’ will transfer over to fish the ‘Tilly’.

Casco builder Las – en Constructiebedrijf Staal Friesland BV was in charge of the hull construction which is an in-house LUYT design that was developed in collaboration with Gaastmeer Design.

As the main contractor, LUYT is responsible for the entire new construction process: from design, airframe construction, completion to delivery. For this project, LUYT works together with suppliers from Wieringen and the surrounding region.

The statistics of the ‘Tilly’ are as follows:

And last year the WD 63 ‘Lian Jan’ came for maintenance and a new winch and the WD 14 ‘Willy’ came for a new wheelhouse, winch and new main engine. The WD 38 ‘Saltees Quest’ got fitted with a new six-drum trawl winch earlier this year and next month the DA 37 ‘Emer Jane’ will arrive in port of Den Oever for the installation of a new six-drum LUYT trawl winch along with other various maintenance work
