The new trawler/purse-seine netter Havsnurp to be designed and built by Karstensens Shipyard

#472 – ”HAVSNURP”

Havsnurp AS and Karstensens Shipyard have signed a contract for the design and construction of a  69.99 metre purse seine/trawler.

Karstensens Shipyard Skagen

Havsnurp AS is owned by the families Stølen and Hole from Midsund in Norway. The company was established in 1985 by the partnership of Karsten Stølen and  Kjell Inge Hole.

This vessel will be the company’s third new building, and will replace the current Havsnurp, delivered from Karstensens Shipyard in 2013.  The company is today led  by  the  next generation, in the form of brothers Jan Andre and Tor Inge Stølen as well as  brothers  Ken-Arve and Oddbjørn Hole.

The company operates with combined trawling, pelagic for herring and mackerel and for industrial fish, combined with fish for human consumption/whitefish. The new vessel shall operate in accordance with the same principles.

The company welcomes the fact that this agreement has been reached with Karstensens Shipyard and is looking forward to getting started with the construction. Shipping company and shipyard have, ever since the contracting of existing Havsnurp, more than 10 years ago the job close together.  The new project is therefore a natural extension of the successful and constructive cooperation.

Karstensens Shipyard welcomes the confidence of the Stølen and Hole partnership and the rest of the shipping company with this order. Returning customers are invaluable advertising.

Like the other ships that the Shipyard has under construction for shipowners in Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands and Denmark, new “Havsnurp” are also of their own design.

Karstensens Shipyard has with new “Havsnurp”, a total of 15 fishing vessels in the order book for delivery over the next 3 years.

The company has been concerned with innovative solutions and special attention has been paid to optimising working conditions, safety and comfort for the crew. Many experiences from the Company’s current ship and the Yard’s portfolio have been discussed and assessed during the design process.

Safety and working conditions are particularly taken into account by “Havsnurp”  as opposed to current, we will have the entire loading deck  as  waterproof.

The green profile is largely taken care of in the form of practical and effective  solutions. There is a great focus on the hull design, and optimisation  in relation to “Havsnurp’s” operating profile, this with the lowest possible fuel consumption and thus emissions in mind.

In addition, the vessel is equipped with electric winches, electric fish pump, heat recovery from all engines, LED lighting everywhere as well as a number of other measures to ensure possible energy consumption.

The electric trawl winch will be delivered by MacGregor Rapp (who was also a supplier to the current Havsnurp), and is rigged for  trawling and purse-seine-net fishing. Fish pumps are also electric from Rapp. MacGregor Triplex will supply cranes and other notch equipment, including electric groove tails.

The aft deck is designed to increase the focus on trawling in the North Sea. The ship is designed with a factory, with maximum focus on efficient workflow and gentle fish treatment.

A number of suppliers are currently selected, all based on criteria such as energy optimisation, innovation, quality and operational safety.

The propulsion system will consist of a Wartsila main engine of 4640 kW with  large, long-range propellers, adjusting the ship’s exact gauge. The system is equipped with take-me-home function, which enables diesel-electric navigation.

The new “Havsnurp” will be delivered in October  2023.
