The new trawler/danish-seiner MONSUN built by Karstensens Shipyard

On 08 October 2019, a contract was signed between Setho Fiskeriselskap AS and Karstensens Shipyard A/S for the construction of a new 36.00 m trawler/Danish-Seine vessel.

The finished ship was taken over by the Shipping Company on 25 August 2022 after some delay, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new vessel is a state-of-the-art combination vessel, designed for fishing for both pelagic and demersal edible fish as well as shrimp, with all the latest in machinery, equipment and equipment. The project as a whole has been created in a very close and intense collaboration between Rederi and Værft.

The shipping company Setho Fiskeriselskap AB is owned and operated by the brothers Thor Gunnar and Thomas Martinsen as well as Severin Reinartsen and Svein Arne Lunde as well as Piraja AS all from Flekkeroy in Norway.

Karstensens Shipyard say they are pleased with the good cooperation and trust shown by the shipping company.

The hull is built with two continuous decks, main decks and shelter decks, as well as reversing and boat decks. Hulls with rear and boat decks, redoubt cladding and gallows are built in steel. Wheelhouse and signal mast made of aluminium. The hull is on a circular span with mirror aft, vertical, moderately protruding bow and bulb. The stern is carried out with a kink line/bulb bow and cross-stern.

Under the main deck, the hull is divided into the following watertight compartments: Forepeak (dry tank), compartment for bow thrusters / fuel oil high tanks, RSW tank section, cargo section (cooling load) with double bottom tank for fuel oil below, engine room with wing tanks and main engine coupled to reduction gears with propellers in nozzle, as well as aft peak with fuel oil, lubricating oil and hydraulic oil tanks.

On the main deck, the vessel is divided into the following watertight compartments: Forepeak, RSW engine room, vacuum pump compartment, RSW trunk section and factory deck. Towards aft/BB layout section and full aft 2-piece receiver blades, with exhaust casing SB and ventilation shaft with descent to engine room BB. All aft workshop/changing room BB.

Layout on the main deck is furnished with 4 1- and 2 2-man hatches, toilet / bath with laundry, changing rooms and hallway and staircase.

Shelter decks have large compartments under reverse, front decks with seine drums and loading decks with hatches for RSW tanks. Aft of the amidship deckhouse with décor. All aft trawl deck with winches and net drums and trawl gallows with exhaust casing SB and ventilation shaft with downwind BB. All aft thank you.

Layout on the shelter deck is with fair with day room, galley, provisions room and toilet / bath as well as hallway and stairs.

On the deckhouse / bridge deck is the wheelhouse with 360° sight and high windows at the aft edge. Aft/under for this is mounted 2 pieces of trawl winch.

The design philosophy behind the main/auxiliary engine constellation is as follows:

2 pieces of collapsible power take-offs (PTOs) are mounted on the main gear, these are intended as primary operation of the hydraulic system.

For power supply, the vessel is equipped with 2 identical auxiliary motors/generator sets, each with an electrical output of 125 kWe. The electrical system is built for parallel operation of the

two generators. Furthermore, the electricity plant is supplied with a Power-Management System (PMS) that manages power consumption and automatic start-up of the diesel generators.

During fishing, where the hydraulic system is used more or less continuously, one or more of the main gear PTOs and thus pumps will be connected. When full power is needed on the games, there will be no need for full performance on the main engine. The main engine will thus be used as a source of power partly for propulsion and partly for the hydraulic system. Accordingly, it is only necessary to have 1 auxiliary motor in operation at a time.

The above ensures fuel and operationally sound operation, with optimal benefit from the main engine, while achieving high reliability.
