Lerwick Harbour will showcase Shetland’s fishing strengths at Skipper Expo Aberdeen, highlighting infrastructure, efficiency and landing benefits.

Lerwick Harbour will showcase the strength of Shetland’s fishing sector at this year’s Skipper Expo International Aberdeen, with Lerwick Port Authority exhibiting at stand C11.
The Authority will be joined by Shetland Islands Council (C14), Scholes Chartered Accountants (C13) and Malakoff Limited (C15), reflecting a collaborative approach to promoting Shetland’s offer to the fishing industry.
Promoting the Benefits of Landing in Shetland
The exhibition provides an opportunity to reinforce the advantages of landing catch in Shetland, including proximity to rich fishing grounds, reduced fuel costs, lower carbon emissions and shorter transit times.Through the ‘Land in Shetland’ initiative, partners continue to promote the efficiency and value of landing into Lerwick, supported by access to modern facilities and a wide range of services.

Investment in Port Infrastructure
Lerwick Harbour’s whitefish market offers significant capacity for landings, reinforcing its position as one of the UK’s leading ports for handling fish. Recent investment has also included the development of a new container park to support the whitefish fleet.Further infrastructure upgrades are supporting both the whitefish and pelagic sectors, including high‑capacity shore power connections. These allow vessels to meet power requirements while alongside without running auxiliary engines, improving operational efficiency and reducing emissions.
Dredging Works to Support Future Growth
Ongoing dredging works in the North Harbour area will deepen and widen the North Ness channel and improve access to key berths, including Mair’s Pier and Gremista Quay. The project, which is due for completion in 2026, is expected to support future development and increase capacity for the pelagic fleet.

Engaging Directly With Industry
Chief executive Captain Calum Grains said Skipper Expo provided an important opportunity to connect with the fishing industry.“Skipper Expo provides a valuable opportunity to engage directly with vessel operators and industry partners. The Authority continues to invest in infrastructure and services to support the fishing sector, and we are keen to highlight the practical and commercial benefits of landing into Shetland,” he said.
Lerwick Port Authority said it looked forward to engaging with vessel operators, industry stakeholders and partners during the event, and to continuing to promote the benefits of operating from Shetland.
